Six months into my role as Associate Director of Multimedia at Kean University, I traveled to Brazil to document a collaboration between Kean and SENAI students exploring sustainable, equitable and healthy housing. There was no predetermined narrative. I had to find what the story was, why it mattered and how to make an abstract academic subject something audiences could see and feel.

I treated production as both documentation and discovery. While filming, I asked questions and learned from the students and professors about the ideas driving their work. Rather than a chronological recap of the trip, I centered the film on its deeper purpose: people from different cultures sharing knowledge to imagine healthier, more equitable communities.

I set the creative direction and served as producer, cinematographer and editor, identifying the strongest voices and building the story around the human impact of the experience. Finding the why gave every interview, visual and editorial decision a clear direction.

The finished video was praised by the president of Kean University and nominated for a 2026 New York Emmy Award in the Education category.

This is the kind of work I do best: entering complex and unfamiliar environments, finding the emotional truth inside the subject and shaping it into a story that connects institutional goals with human experience.
